FAQs

  • Why do you only have one style of necklace?
A valid question! Here at Ethology, our ethos is that we have far too much…stuff. Mass materialisation overwhelms our minds and the planet. So, we focused our energy into creating one great product that will meet the sensory needs of our children and which takes away the burden of choice.
  • How can I clean my necklace?
We recommend you wash your new necklace with soapy water and air dried prior to first use. Our necklaces are not dishwasher safe, and should not be sterilised, boiled, microwaved or frozen.
  • How do I dispose of my necklace when it is no longer needed?
There are two phases to the end-of-life disposal of your necklace. Simply cut the cotton cord and clasp free from the pendant and return to us using the postage-paid envelope that we have provided. We will then recycle these via our TerraCycle® Zero Waste Boxes. Send to: Ethology PO Box 4011, Kotara East NSW 2305 The biodegradability of the natural rubber pendant is maximised through hot composting. Avoid disposing your pendant into household waste, as the omission of oxygen circulation in landfill would impact its biodegradability. If you do not feel comfortable with the hot compost process, you can return the entirety of your necklace to us for proper disposal.
  • Are the necklaces safe for people with a latex allergy?
The natural rubber that our necklaces are created from is sourced from the latex sap of the Hevea Brasiliensis tree. It is the latex protein within this sap that causes the allergic reaction in some individuals, usually over repeated exposure over many years. For anyone with a known latex allergy there is no “safe” level of exposure to this protein and therefore for those with a known allergy, we cannot recommend the use of our product. However, we take the safety and wellbeing of our users as our primary focus and have had our pendants independently laboratory tested in the USA. Under the ASTM D6499 testing standard the level of antigenic protein within our pendant was certified below the level of detection.
  • Are the necklaces suitable for aggressive chewers?
We recognise that children have a spectrum of sensory needs. Due to the soft and malleable property of natural rubber, our necklaces are most suited to mild chewers. More aggressive chewers may not achieve the intense sensory input they are seeking from natural rubber and may prefer a silicone product, which is harder in texture.
  • Where are the necklaces made?
Our necklaces were entirely designed in Australia by Anya (the boss lady here at Ethology!) We have also partnered with a manufacturer in China who have worked tirelessly on behalf of Ethology to promote and uphold our ethos and mission. We are truly grateful for the energy, patience and extensive knowledge they have brought to realising our dream product.
